MG Unicorn & 1/60 Exia

Solid photos of the last MG for 2007, Gundam Unicorn from Hobby Shop Kasare. ^^

Cool! But I still don't understand the transformation gimmicks of the armor pieces ^^;
The price is 5,250 Yen. Images from Hobby Shop Kasare.

Also coming out in December is the huge 1/60 Gundam Exia. Apart from the size, plenty of details all over the body. With painting and panel-lining, it sure looks much better than the 'raw' assembled version mentioned many moons ago. With all the details and articulation, which shouldn't be a problem given Bandai's current technology, does it mean that there is no hope for Exia to come out in PG format anymore?

The price is 4,725 Yen. Images from Hobby Shop Kasare.

Finally, Zeonography Ex-Set Qubeley & Qubeley Mk. II will be available by the end of December. Absolutely awesome with the almost metallic-like coating of all the parts. The price is of course 'awesome' as well: a whopping 8,190 Yen. Definitely not on my list of purchase.

Haman-sama, why can't you come out as an individual release? Why must you be bundled with Mk. II? I have no budget for you already >_< Amiami.

Finally, updates on this month's HG 1/100 Gundam Exia. Although Bandai Hobbysite reported that the release date for that kit is tomorrow (8 November), some folks in Japan are already assembling it-leh~ Since this kit is hot on my list, I'm paying serious attention to all the information I can get about it ^^

All images from Gunpla Secret Factory.

All the parts for 1/100 Exia

The armor for the ankle is molded in one piece.

Something not available for the HG 1/144 version: beam sabers and beam daggers.

Parts for the head, you can see some details in the 'lanes' of the helmet.

Even in 1/100 scale, quite a lot of stickers are needed. Something which the possible MG in the future can look into for improvement?

Without painting/sticker and panel-lining, the head sure looks a bit 'off'. I'm a bit disappointed that the yellow verniers on the cheek need painting :( And what's with the very obvious split on the forehead >_<

Four-legged Armored Core

The four-legged Armored Core model kit spotted at PLAMO Radicon Show 2007 is called Crest CR-C75U2 Delta Ver. and it looks really awesome o_0

The price is 4,725 Yen, and will only be available March next year. But it seems like it's ready to be sold~ Images from Amiami

Also from Kotobukiya, 1/144 scale 'ARUBUREDO' custom (not sure about the exact name, I just got it from Google Translation) coming in January next year. The price is 3,675 Yen.

Not sure about you, but his face looks too similar to R-1 to me. Images from Amiami

Also, SRW fans should know that this month is the month of 1/100 Alteisen, the Big-Red-Machine (I call him that :P)! Want to know something special? Not only is he bigger in size (22cm) because of his scale, there are LED parts included for the eyes to light up! Wuhhuh!

Luckily I save my money on the 1/144 scale in the past, now I can think about getting this one instead ^^ The price is 5,800 Yen.

Snow White... Is That You?

Synopsis of a movie coming in 2008:
"The story, a fantasy adventure, centers on a British girl being raised in 19th century Hong Kong. When she realizes her destiny is to conquer an evil force, she must prepare to fight by being trained by seven Shaolin monks." --- from Rotten Tomatoes

Sound quite promising, though there are many other movies with similar storyline. The same report also stated that Francis Lawrence, the director for Keanu Reeves's Constantine in 2005 and Will Smith's I Am Legend coming up this December will take over the Director seat for that movie. Plus, Yuen Woo-ping will be designing the fight sequences. Yuen designed the fight sequences for The Banquet, Jet Li's Fearless, Kill Bill 1 & 2, the Matrix and many of the earlier Wong Fei-hung movies in Hong Kong. So you know you are getting the guarantee of great action.

Sound really awesome...

Except the movie is supposed to be the live-action action drama of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and it's produced by Disney with the title of Snow and the Seven. If you check out its IMDB entry, you'll find other big names like Natalie Portman and Jet Li rumored to be involved as well.

Disney is revamping (or maybe destroying?) the image of Snow White.

When I first read about the news, I just couldn't believe my eyes. The East-meets-West movie genre can't be more crazier than this one. I would feel a lot more comfortable if Disney just ditch the connection with the fairy tale character and create an entirely unrelated one instead.

As a matter in fact, Disney should use alternate movie title as well. My suggestions as below:
(1) Snow not White
(2) Snowena: Warrior Princess
(3) The Curse of the Poison Apple
(4) Snowoman
(5) The Return of the Snow
(6) Snow White, Blood Red
(7) The Seven Monks and the Deathly Snow
(8) Fantastic Snow
(9) S-War (Snow War)
(10) The Rise of the Snow

Fight scene coordinator Yuen Woo-ping might be facing his toughest challenge in this movie XD

I can't stop myself from imagining that after this movie, the following scene might happens when parents read their children the story of Snow White during bedtime.
Mother: ...and so Snow White and the Prince live happily ever after...
Son: but Mom, Snow White knows Kung Fu
Mother: ?!
Son: Yeah, and she was trained by Shaolin monks too~
Mother: -_-++

U.C.H.G. Cyclops Team

Three new photos of U.C.H.G. Cyclops Team available on the 15th of this month.

I was looking forward to more updates on this set since the announcement of its release early last month. If you don't know this already, the Cyclops Team was a Zeon commando squadron in UC0080: War in a Pocket. It was sent to capture or destroy Gundam NT-1 before it could be delivered to Earth Federation's triumph card, Amuro Ray. After a failed mission in the Arctic, which saw a member of the Cyclops Team died in combat, the team was dispatched to Side 6 where the new Gundam was tested. Most of the story happened in that space colony.

War in a Pocket is one of my favorite Gundam anime series. Although the anime is just 6 episodes in length, there are tons of drama, great fighting sequences, and the mecha are absolute bad-ass, like Kampfer, Zaku II FZ, Gelgoog Jaegar, and Rick Dom II. The ending is extremely sad though.

From left to right: Andy Strauss, Gabriel Ramirez Garcia (sitting behind the jeep), Bernard Wiseman (I think, I can't remember seeing him wearing a helmet and goggles in the anime), Steiner Hardy (captain of the team), Mikhail Kaminsky (Kampfer's pilot!) and Alfred Izuruha, the kid who befriended the Cyclops Team on Side 6, and the only witness to the entire event of the War in the Pocket, at least on Side 6.

The mecha for this UCHG set is the military jeep, and loads of guns to better portray the Cyclops Team ^^;

Personally, I'm a bit disappointed that there isn't any mobile suit component to be included for this release, like the 1/35 GM arm in EFGF Anti MS Squad.

Also, photos of HCM-Pro Ground Type GM and GM Sniper mentioned in an earlier posting:

Still no info on their prices and release date though.

End of the Year Dilemma

In just a few more hours, we'll be leaving 2007, and head into a brand new year, a brand new beginning, and many opportunities for things to come in our life.

Personally, I would have a little assessment of my life at this moment, to think about what I have done this year, and things I miss as well. Also, a general review about the happenings this year, and how they affect my life, and my future. It's not a 10,000-word-report type of assessment ^^; just a quick thought. My experience is that if you spend too much time thinking about the past, you'll regret many of them, which will then make your future seems extremely depressing.

Occasionally, I kind of have this "End of the Year Dilemma" - a feeling that many bad things always come up at the end of the year. The feeling became apparent these few years, when there were so many sad events hitting the world around me in one way or the other. The feeling worsened when I could acknowledge the damage but have very little power to do anything at all. At the edge of understanding the responsibilities of an adult, the feeling of being 'powerless' and even 'useless' when such problems happen is totally frustrating for me.

30th December 2003 is a sad date for fans of Chinese pop music. It was the day when Anita Mui (梅艳芳) pass away because of cervical cancer. I'm not a big fan of Anita Mui, as I'm a little too young to fully appreciate her work, but I always enjoy her songs and movies. Her ever changing image was always ahead of her time. A few days before her death, I paid close attention to all news about her after she formally announced her illness to the world, and I hoped that some sort of miracle would happen and she would ultimately survive. I still remember early morning of 30th December 2003, when I heard from the radio that Anita Mui lost the war against cancer and died. The dead silence in the room, and later the realization that I'll never get the chance to watch or hear from her again (before that I was planning to save money to go to her concert in Hong Kong) is almost unbearable.

Photobucket
Love her, hate her, there's no denying that the Chinese entertainment industry is never the same anymore after Anita Mui's decease.
One of her movies, The Heroic Trio which also featured super-stars Michelle Yeoh and Maggie Cheung is one of the movies I watched when I was still in primary school, and enjoy very much even till today.

December 2005 is another tragic year-end for many people. The news about the Indonesian earthquake and tsunami which killed over 200 thousand lives is still fresh in the memory of many. I was in Kuala Lumpur when the tragedy struck my neighboring country of Indonesia, and sitting in a comfortable hotel room watching the news on TV was a very sad experience for me. I was blessed, extremely blessed to be safe from such horrible natural disaster, but I kept thinking about the people who might be hanging on a tree starving while waiting for help, and the many parents and children at the salvation camp waiting for their family members who will never return again.

Sad.

;_;

The tragedy to mark the end of 2007 is the assassination of Benazir Bhutto, ex-Prime Minister of Pakistan. I was still a kid who knows nothing about the world when she became the Prime Minister of her country. When I began to learn more about the world, I could see how hard her life must have been in leading a troubling country filled with violence, even harder when she was leading a South Asian country where power was held by men traditionally. Besides stress from political rivals and her opponents in her government, there were constant attempts on her life, even when she was not in power anymore. Alas, she couldn't survive the latest assassination attempt, and the world lost another great woman.

Benazir Bhutto's endurance and courage are great inspiration for all of us. I think when there are problems in our life, we should not falter, but instead, we should soldier on until the problems are solved. Life is hard, but at least we are not threatened by unknown death. Those with great ambition are not being given the chance to show their potentials and abilities, and we who are still breathing should appreciate life and live it to the fullest.

Tragedies here and there, but a new year is coming anyway. Honestly, I don't know how to make this world a better place, but I do know how to make a better me.

Happy 2008 everyone!
